Antivirus Agent Pro Is the Latest Adaptation of Common Rogue Applications

Written by OSAblog on Tuesday, June 23rd, 2009

What if anything can be done about the growing plague of rogue applications? The latest variant is Antivirus Agent Pro, but there is nothing new about this latest rogue. All of the same tactics are employed by the scammers behind it.

If you are wondering how Antivirus Agent Pro got installed in the first place you can blame the Vundo trojan. This trojan has been around for some time and has more variations than someone can count with all their fingers and toes. The latest version of Vundo pretends to be an ActiveX update to get on a computer. Once there it will start to download the rogue applications it was designed to spread.

After the rogue application is installed it begins to annoy the user with artificial scans that popups tell the user that they should buy a full version of Antivirus Agent Pro to remove the manufactured threats. None of the threats that Antivirus Agent Pro lists are real, the only dangerous program on the computer is Antivirus Agent Pro and the trojans that were installed with it.

Most people believe that they are safely surfing the Internet as long as they have a virus protection program, but the fact is the Vundo trojan was designed to bypass all of the most popular virus protection programs. Once the Vundo trojan blocks the virus protection then the computer is at risk from other trojans and malware.

As long as the trojan remains on a computer the virus protection is blocked and Antivirus Agent Pro will always reinstall itself. To manually remove any type of rogue application the user has to remove all of it or it will come back time and time again.

Another problematic issue that Antivirus Agent Pro presents is redirected web browsers. If the user cannot find reliable information on how to remove Antivirus Agent Pro, then how can they remove it completely? The thing is, unless the user has a bit of experience in system files they are more than likely going to cause more problems than the rogue has done.

These reasons are why it is so important to have a couple lines of defense to prevent the installation of rogue applications. Having just a virus protection program installed is not going to cut it when you consider that new trojans are so easily able to block most virus protection programs.

Have a reliable malware protection and removal program installed can greatly reduce the risks involved with malware. On top of blocking rogue applications like Antivirus Agent Pro, malware protection programs can also stop spyware programs cold.

When trying to find the finest malware removal and protection program it is best to look for one that has some type of guarantee. There are some protection programs that offer good protection, but few that offer guarantees. When you find one that has a 100% guarantee, then you know that you have the best.
