Antivirus Gold Will Steal Your Gold!

Written by OSAblog on Friday, August 28th, 2009

Antivirus Gold is a rogue security program that advertises aggressively to users. The makers of this malicious software want you to believe that it is a legitimate antispyware tool capable of removing security threats that supposedly exist, although most likely they do not. This fake will change the wallpaper on your desktop to a warning message, so that when the user clicks on it they are sent to the Antivirus Gold website.

Programs like this one are created by hackers who hope to lure you into buying a useless product. This one, like most other rogues, advertises incessantly warning of security threats. You are invited to download a free scan that will detect these threats. Once you do, the results will be displayed showing all of the infected files. These results are fabricated. You will then be instructed that in order for the program to remove these threats and infections, you must purchase the full product. Antivirus Gold is incapable of scanning, detecting or removing anything at all, so do not waste your money.

The truth is, once you decide to try the free scan you have most likely installed the fake on your PC. Most innocent users do not realize that these things are scams, and unknowingly download something that they believe to be helpful. There are thousands of these malicious programs out in cyberspace, so be extremely cautious when downloading anything. If you do get this on your computer, you should remove it at once.

Antivirus Gold may install additional malware on your PC, which puts your computer and your private information at risk. Often, these parasites affect system files that are necessary for your system to operate properly. Files may be disabled or deleted, and your private information is at risk of getting accessed by hackers for malicious purposes. You will often notice that your PC runs very slowly, or that you are getting pounded by pop-up and banner ads. You might also notice that your browser redirects you to strange websites.

Malware can be removed manually, but this process is not advised. In order to remove these parasites, you must first stop all associated running processes. Then you must locate all related files and values that exist in various locations on your PC, such as folders and the Windows registry. When done improperly, manual removal can cause severe damage to your computer.

If you believe that Antivirus Gold or any other malware resides on your PC, it is recommended that you remove it automatically using a reputable antispyware tool. These programs are designed for this purpose, and will remove all traces of infections and security threats, restoring complete security.
