Malware Cleaner Will Take You to the Cleaners

Written by OSAblog on Wednesday, June 10th, 2009

Malware Cleaner is a rogue security application of Russian origin. This program is invented by hackers for the sole purpose of robbing innocent users of their money. Although it indicates that it can remove security threats and infections from your computer, it cannot. It is a security threat within itself, and should be removed as soon as you realize it’s there. If not removed, this application can install additional malware on your PC, which will cause further problems.

Malware Cleaner will display security warnings through very real looking Windows Security pop-up messages. If the user is not careful, these messages will convince them to download the program for a scan and removal of infections. Once this is done, the program will inform the user that security threats are so severe that the full product must be purchased in order to detect and remove infections completely. These messages are totally false since this scam cannot perform any of these processes.

Where does this nasty program come from? Often, infections like these come from downloading freeware and shareware, or visiting questionable websites. The user normally won’t know their computer is being infected, as these programs hide in the background. They will compromise the security of your PC as well as your personal information, so prompt removal is essential. These applications have the ability to steal information such as your passwords, credit card numbers and other private data.

How will you know if Malware Cleaner resides on your PC? There are several signs of being infected. A common symptom with most rogue security programs is your computer becoming much slower than usual as well as incessant pop-up ads. Your homepage may suddenly change, or your browser may redirect to unknown websites. Occasionally, you will be blocked from websites you attempt to visit. If you notice a new toolbar in your browser, this is likely a sign of being infected as well.

This rogue software, like most others, will track your interests when you are online. It gathers this information in order to sell it to third parties, who will then send pop-up ads related to the searches you have performed. You may also receive spam emails containing information related to your interests. These programs can cause severe damage to your computer, so never leave them on your PC – get rid of them immediately.

Manual removal of Malware Cleaner may be possible, but is not advisable unless you are an expert in this complex process. Attempting this yourself often leads to incomplete removal, which can cause further damage to your PC. Every related file must be deleted and all running processes killed, which is not an easy task for the average user.

When you believe rogue security software exists on your computer, you should remove it at once with a reliable antispyware application. A good one will scan your PC to detect infections, remove them and restore complete security. Your best bet is to get a product that guarantees 100% removal of infections and threats. Nothing less will do.
