SystemTuner is a Criminal Scam

Written by OSAblog on Sunday, April 19th, 2009

There is a common and lucrative scam that is replicated and renamed over and over. The people and company behind these scams make millions every year thanks to their deception. One of the latest versions of this con game is called SystemTuner. Be sure to avoid it at all costs and keep your money out of the hands of criminals. They are the least deserving of your hard earned money. The best way to protect your money and your computer is to have a quality antispyware program that you can trust to keep those rogues at bay.

SystemTuner is a rogue security application that claims to be able to clean up your computer and make it run swiftly again. This, however, is a complete and utter lie. SystemTuner does the exact opposite of what it claims to do. It will hinder your computer’s performance and let harmful programs roam free.

SystemTuner usually infects a computer through a Trojan horse program. These Trojans slip passed mediocre security applications and then download malicious software without the user’s knowledge or permission. This is one of the most aggressive tactics of advertisement, and also the most unethical.

Once SystemTuner finds its way onto a computer, it will do its best to scare the daylights out of the user by claiming that the system is overrun by malware. This is true to a degree because SystemTuner is infecting that system! But SystemTuner tells the user to let it scan the computer so that it can find all of the infections.

If this is allowed, SystemTuner will pretend to scan the computer and present the user with a list of results. This list will be phony, but the user will be strongly urged to pay for the full version of SystemTuner in order to have the threats removed. If the user doesn’t pay, then they will constantly be harassed with fake warning messages and pop-up advertisements until they pay up or have SystemTuner removed.

When the full version has been purchased, SystemTuner won’t do anything at all. It will not remove any threats that may actually exist, nor will it keep any malicious programs from infecting the system. Instead, the computer will continue to work poorly and may even be flooded with more adware and spyware over time.

This is why it is so important that you be careful and get protection for your computer. While SystemTuner can be removed manually after it has infected your computer, why would you want to let it infect your computer in the first place? Prevention is better medicine than treatment. If your computer is properly protected, then you will never have to remove any threats manually.

In order to properly protect your computer from scamming threats like SystemTuner, as well as a plethora of other infectious programs, you should find a genuine antispyware program. Make sure that it really is genuine and that it is guaranteed to remove 100% of spyware. Without offering complete protection, even a legitimate program isn’t worth buying.
