The DIY Burglar Alarm Kit: Keep Your Home Safe From Thieves

Written by OSAblogger on Saturday, August 1st, 2009

The home security systems that are considered very important today are home burglar alarms. What is very exciting is that there are DIY (Do It Yourself) kits which provide easy installation for many home owners.

But then, it is very important for individuals who are going to use a home burglar alarms system to know and understands its basics. Burglar alarms are sensors capable of detecting someone who enters your home. Then these sensors take actions such as make loud piercing noises, make valuables safe as much as possible, call the police, and do other safety measures.

Generally, these home burglar alarms are hard-wired in the walls of your home. This is done to keep it intact preventing it from being removed or disabled. In this manner, the alarm will be easily triggered when tampered. However, the mechanisms which deactivate or activate it vary widely. It could use a more common key and Personal Identification Number (PIN) or even hi-tech fingerprint systems.

Most people prefer DIY burglar alarm system kits as they are not that expensive. These systems can be wireless or wired as mentioned earlier. These are capable of setting off audible alarms whenever an intruder moves or breaks into the house.

These systems are available in two types. It can be either a closed or an open circuit. If the alarm has an open circuit design, the alarm works whenever its circuit is closed. Take for example when a window or door is opened, the circuit is completed setting off the alarm. If the alarm has a closed circuit design, the alarm works in opposite ways. When a window or door is opened, the circuit breaks setting off the alarm.

These home burglar alarm systems kits can include (a.) {single premise alarm systems which provide specific features such as door alarms, heat or smoke detectors, carbon monoxide alarms, and others~single premise alarm systems that provide specific features such as heat or smoke detectors, door alarms, carbon monoxide alarms and others} (b.) local alarm systems which creates sounds when intrusion takes place (c.) Telephone dialer alarms which can dial a specified phone number when the alarm is triggered (d.) monitored security systems which are monitored constantly by an alarm company

Always remember that there are existing home security systems rated as much more advanced equipment. Some salesman could play on the fear of people for crimes in order to sell them their latest alarm system that are controlled by computers, complete with expert installations which are expensive, and monitoring center open 24-hours on a monthly basis subscription. As a potential buyer, you should also weigh different options when purchasing DIY alarm systems kits. Sometimes it can be very luxurious yet unnecessary.

Some people have thought of different ideas to cut down their expenses on purchasing burglar alarms. Their DIY burglar alarm system is made from an alarm box which resembles a real burglar alarm box installed outside their house. This could prevent all expenses and hassles of obtaining the real alarm system. Nevertheless make sure it actually looks real since you cannot fake experienced burglars. It is a rule to make it a secret or else your efforts would be useless.

Remember, it is not the features of the burglar alarm system that is making the difference. The secret of using this home security device is keeping the burglars away from your home. The burglar’s tendency is to avoid alarm boxes outside your home since they will unlikely expose themselves to great troubles.

When grandpa died, it created a tough problem for grandma’s three older sons. They were all successful businessmen located in cities on the Eastern seaboard. Grandma, however, was in Chicago. And now she was alone.
The three sons convened a meeting to discuss what to do about grandma.
“I am worried most about her security,” said John. “With grandpa gone, someone could take advantage of her vulnerability; if they broke into her house, she wouldn’t know about it until she confronted them.”
Mark said that uprooting grandma was not an option. “She would just not even consider moving East,” he said. “So we have to figure out another plan. And she certainly is not at the stage where she would be a candidate for a nursing home.”
Ted said he felt the answer is some kind of device that would warn her if there was any intruder threatening any part of her house. “We should look into what is available out there, short of a huge, complex, expensive security system that would be overkill,” he said.
Each of them checked around with friends and family members to gather ideas. They got plenty of them, but none seemed practical or appropriate for grandma – until John’s wife, Jean, talked with her mother-in-law, a widow herself. “She has a system that alerts her to anyone who might be a potential intruder threatening any part of her home,” Jean said. “Not only does it warn of the approach of an intruder, it can provide her information about when her guests have pulled into the driveway or even when her newspaper has hit the front porch.”
John, Mark and Ted all agreed it was something they had to look into. They liked what they found. They found it at http://www.yoursecurityandsafety.com/voicealert.htm. It is called Voice Alert System-6 and they were impressed with its versatility, its ease of use and the price! Voice Alert System 6, they found, is a new annunciator system featuring wireless PIR sensors transmitters and a remote receiver/speaker base unit. Grandma can record her own alert messages, and then she will hear her own message played back to her when activity is detected in an area that is being monitored.
The system has the capacity to record six different messages from up to six different monitored areas. So she could have six transmitters, reporting any activity to her from her front door area, the back door, the side door, the driveway/garage, the garden and the tool shed. This would cover all the potentially vulnerable areas which she would want to be protected.
The brothers were particularly impressed with the systems’ wireless PIRs features: all-weather protection, adjustable mounting and sensitivity and the ability to send a signal 300 feet through walls and up to 1000 feet in open space.
With Mother’s Day just around the corner, the boys decided to split the cost of the unit and five additional motion sensors and planned a trip to Chicago to celebrate Mother’s Day – and grandma’s independence.
Her favorite part of the Voice Alert System? The unit that protected her beloved flower bed from potential kids or pets who might trample them.
