Ultimate Security Suite Is Not Secure

Written by OSAblog on Wednesday, May 13th, 2009

Even though it is a sham, Ultimate Security Suite gets a lot of people because of its promises to provide complete Internet browsing anonymity while simultaneously providing complete protection for your PC. In theory, this would be a nice service, if they actually gave you what they promised and didn’t lie about what they do with your information.

Ultimate Security Suite is in actuality rogue antispyware. This means that it tries to trick users into buying the full version of the program by scaring them in to thinking that they have a bunch of bugs on their computer that only the full version can remove. These programs usually get onto a computer via a Trojan that has already opened a security hole, but in the case of Ultimate Security Suite, it is more often manually downloaded by unsuspecting users who think they are getting the ability to browse anonymously.

While Ultimate Security Suite does actually block the user’s IP address from the host server, what they don’t tell you is that they keep a log of all of your online activity instead. Add that fact to these others: that the program is huge and bogs down your computer, that they bombard you with pop ups, that they let other spyware infiltrate and send your personal information off to interested third parties, and suddenly the $100 IP block doesn’t seem nearly as worth it.

Furthermore, Ultimate Security Suite is bundled with a bunch of spyware, so if you have fallen for the scam and bought the full version, you would be wise to monitor your credit report for fraud. It is not uncommon for developers of such dubious software to steal your information without your knowledge.

If you have found Ultimate Security Suite on your computer, or downloaded it not knowing what it was, you should remove it immediately. You can do this manually by blockings its addresses, killing its running processes, unregistering its DLLs and deleting its associated registry values and files. Use caution while doing this task as the accidental deletion of the wrong file could cause further damage to your machine. Also, recognize that if you miss any one file during your attempt to destroy it, Ultimate Security Suite will simply reinstall itself upon reboot.

You can remove Ultimate Security Suite automatically, as well as ensure protection against all future threats by finding yourself a legitimate antispyware tool. Again, use caution here as rogue antispyware programs are a dime a dozen, and even most legitimate programs don’t offer complete coverage. Look for a program that guarantees removal of 100% of all the spyware on your machine, and provides automatic updates to ensure protection against future threats. Look for legitimacy markers such as memberships with organizations like the Better Business Bureau, and be sure that the company provides a refund if you are not satisfied with their service. There are a handful of high quality antispyware programs out there strong enough to do the job, and you would be wise to ensure that the one you get falls into that category.
