What You Need To Know About Using An Antivirus

Probably the most important piece of software you’ll need on your computer is that of an antivirus program. Windows systems are highly susceptible to viruses and all types of spyware and Trojans are being made that can destroy your system and make your computer lag and run extremely slow. Here we’ll review some of the benefits of using an antiviral program.

Viruses can get into a computer system simply by visiting a certain webpage where the virus is hidden and lurking in the pages. They can also infect computers if the user downloads media from a peer to peer file sharing site. The virus can either be caught from another user’s files that unknowingly contain a virus, or through a file where a user has purposely added a virus to the file.

Most viruses are given a threat meter, from least damaging to highest alert. There are websites dedicated to compiling all the latest threat data with information on the threat and removal instructions as well. Check them often to be sure you’re running the latest updates.

Purchasing or downloading free antivirus software is the best way to protect your computer against viruses. The software will update itself (updates are needed to protect against latest threats) and will be able to better catch viruses as they come through and quarantine them before there’s any damage.

Most antivirus programs also have spyware guards, which protect against spyware. Spyware is a malware that attaches itself to a computer and collects information about users without them knowing. It can cause the computer to run extremely slow.

You’ll have to pay for most antivirus programs but there are some free ones on the internet, too. They do a good job and it is up to the user to decide what kind of protection they need and at what level. Most antivirus software costs around forty dollars a year. Some are bundled with spyware guards and other computer monitoring software and can cost a bit more.

Especially if you download media files then using an antivirus is a must. It’s a good way for potential attacks to come through whenever opening your computer up like that. But even if you’re just a regular web browser and all you do is use the internet, you still need antivirus software. Just going onto the internet opens the computer up to all sorts of risks so having proper software to protect your investment is a wise choice.
