WiniFighter Offers No PC Protection

Written by OSAblog on Tuesday, August 25th, 2009

WiniFighter is a rogue security program disguised as a legitimate spyware removal application. This fake advertises aggressively to the user, informing them that trojans and other security threats exist on their PC. These alerts are meant to scare the user, so that they will buy the product in order to restore the security of their computer. Spending money on this program is a complete waste of money.

This scareware is known to split itself with the help of trojans and may infect your PC using web browser vulnerabilities. This will cause your computer to redirect to websites you were not intending to visit, most of them advertising this product. WiniFighter may also install additional malware on your computer, which compromises performance and may damage your system.

Most malware programs such as this one install without the knowledge or permission of the user. If you did not get infected by actually downloading the free scan that is often offered, you most likely became infected when visiting an unknown website or by downloading free program files such as video, games and music. A shared network is sometimes responsible, as well as links in spam emails.

WiniFighter, like other rogue security programs, will likely disable system files that are necessary in order for your computer to work properly. Your computer may become unstable, seem very slow to run, and you may receive annoying pop-up and banner ads as well. Some of these applications are so dangerous that they will collect private information about you as well, and transmit this data to remote locations. Your personal passwords, credit card information and other business data could be accessed, which puts you at risk for identity theft.

If you believe that you have malware on your PC, it should be removed at once to prevent further damage. Manual removal is a solution, but is not advised because of the level of difficulty and possible risk of severe damage to your computer. All related files and values must be detected and deleted, which is nearly impossible because these files can easily hide from the user. The best thing you can do if you believe that WiniFighter exists on your system is to get a highly-reputable antispyware tool, which will detect and remove parasites automatically.
