XPPolice is Out For Your Money
XPPolice purports itself to be a legitimate antispyware tool, when in fact it is another rogue security program that is not capable of any type of benefit to the user. This program, like many other fakes, displays misleading and aggressive security alerts to the user in an effort to convince them parasites and security threats exist on their PC. It also gives the user erroneous scan results, to further convince them to buy the product.
Malware can cause many problems for a user. It is capable of disabling system files that are needed for your computer to work properly. This software usually installs without the consent or knowledge of the user, through other files they have downloaded or malicious websites they may have visited. The files that are usually responsible are freeware, music, videos and games. Sharing networks with others is also sometimes where these rogues come from.
XPPolice works something like this: Through a pop-up window, the user gets a security alert message warning that security threats exist on their PC. They offer a free scan to supposedly detect and remove these threats. If the user does download the scan, they will then be shown the results, or infected files. These results are totally false, as this program cannot detect anything. They will then explain that in order to remove these supposed threats, you must purchase the full product. At this point, if you have downloaded the scan, you have essentially placed the imposter on your computer, which is itself an infection.
If you do get this malicious software installed on your computer, there are many symptoms you are certain to notice. Your PC may become much slower than normal, which is caused by this application using an enormous amount of your system resources. Most likely, you will get incessant pop-up ads, and your browser may redirect to unknown websites, some of them advertising this product. Malware has the ability to collect information about your online searches, as well as private information such as personal passwords and business data.
XPPolice should be removed immediately once detected. You may think you can remove it manually yourself, but that is not a good idea unless you are an expert. You must remove all related files and values, and kill associated running processes. This is not an easy task, and can put your computer at risk of severe damage. If you believe this rogue security program is on your PC, it is highly advised that you use a reputable antispyware product designed to remove all traces of parasites and other security threats.
