HP’s Approach to Recycling Inkjet Cartridges in the UK
The negative effects of Inkjet Cartridges to the environment of the UK are well-documented. Inkjet cartridges seem to be destined for landfills right after they run out of ink. Hewlett-Packard is among the leading brands in inkjet cartridge manufacturing, and yet it’s publicised efforts to be environmentally sound cannot be neglected. It has pledged to utilize recycled plastic to make their inkjet cartridges. Recycled matter means less raw products used, and less discarded plastic that end up in landfills. But HP’s recycled ink cartridges are markedly different from remanufactured ones. HP’s method is to take existing materials and combine them to make new cartridges. But remanufactured ones simply use empty original cartridges and fill them up with ink. Many environmentalists are hoping that reliable recycling programs such as this one maybe emulated by other companies.
